Our Mission

Investors Against Genocide was a citizen-led initiative, dedicated to convincing mutual funds and other investment firms to make an ongoing commitment to genocide-free investing.

Investors Against Genocide worked with individuals, financial firms, pension and endowment managers and government officials to encourage investment firms to change their investing strategy to avoid investments in companies that substantially contribute to genocide or crimes against humanity.

Our goal wss to make the U.S. financial investment industry more responsive to the American public’s interest in not having their savings connected to the most egregious violations of human rights.

Investors Against Genocide is no longer active. It was a project of the Massachusetts Coalition to Save Darfur Inc., which was a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, incorporated in the state of Massachusetts from 2007 to 2023.
We advocated for investment firms to avoid or divest holdings of PetroChina/CNPC and China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation/Sinopec, two foreign oil companies that helped fund the government of Sudan’s campaign of violence against its people. While conditions in Sudan have improved these companies still help fund ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity by the governments of Burma and Syria. Earlier in the campaign we also advocated divestment of ONGC and Petronas because of their partnership with the government of Sudan.

Looking forward, we advocated for investment firms to make a commitment to genocide-free investing policies that would apply to current and future genocides or crimes against humanity. Investment companies must accept responsibility and implement procedures to prevent involvement in genocide.
